Module 8

Exercise 8 - Book Cover

Objective:

This project consists of the creation of a book cover for a book about the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe. Book covers are intended to tell the purchaser what the product is about. In this case, the cover should capture the essence of the poem and communicate the concept in a unique way.  Therefore, if you are unfamiliar with The Raven, please do some research on it so you know the “feel” of the piece before you start your design process.

Steps:

Specifications:

  • Size: 6"x9" (portrait orientation only)

  • Software: Adobe Express (recommended for beginners) or Adobe InDesign (if you are comfortable with the software)

  • File Format: Submit a high-resolution JPG file of your final design.

  • Required Elements:

    • Title: “The Raven”

    • Author: Edgar Allan Poe

    • image(s) of your choice

Design the Cover
Using Adobe Express (or Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign if you’re comfortable with those), put together a cover that includes:

  • Typography: Choose fonts that match your theme and are easy to read.
  • Color Palette: Pick colors that work well together and suit the style of your book cover.

  • Layout and Composition: Think about how everything is arranged on the cover. It should feel balanced and guide the reader’s eye around the page.

  • Visual Hierarchy: Make sure the important stuff (like the title and author) stands out the most.

Tools:

  • Adobe Express (you can also use Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign if you are familiar with that software)

For Submission:

  • Upload a .jpg of your final book cover design to Canvas

  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram
